Welcome to the online home of the CPD research project.   This is an information portal for a research project, running throughout 2011 and 2012, that is investigating:
 
  • The business and organisational benefits of CPD
 
  • The effectiveness of CPD policies and activities
 
  • Employee perceptions of CPD or professional development
 
Working with the support of Dr. Stephen Gourlay at Kingston Business School, the research is exploring both academic and practical questions, and eventually aims to provide guidance to organisations and individuals on the somewhat confusing world of CPD. 
 
CPD stands for'Continuing Professional Development' and is commonly defined as:
 
 'A commitment to structured skills and knowledge enhancement for personal or professional competence'
 
Any individual who works is increasingly expected to undertake CPD activities by their employer or professional institute.   
 
We are keen to hear from individuals who would either like to share their CPD experiences, or who have questions about how CPD 'works' and its relevance to them.   
 
Ultimately, this site will publish our research findings and provide advice and guidance on undertaking professional development effectively within today's business environment.  Instead of being theoretical and academic, its content will be guided by its users i.e. YOU!
